Annotator Management

The Annotator Management view lets you invite annotators to a project and manage their access.

Inviting Annotators

Go to Annotator Management in the project sidebar and click Add annotators. Enter one or more name/email pairs. The system creates accounts for new users and adds them to the project as annotators.

For each new account a random password is generated and shown to you once — copy and share it with the annotator. They can change their password after logging in.

If an email address already belongs to an existing user, that user is added to the project without changing their password.

Annotator List

The annotator list shows all users who can be assigned to workflows in this project, including team researchers (who can also act as annotators). Columns include:

  • Name — the user's display name
  • Email — used for login
  • Roleannotator or researcher
  • Workflows — how many workflows in this project the user is assigned to

Assigning Annotators to Workflows

Annotators are assigned to workflows in the Human Workflow view, not here. The Annotator Management page is for account creation and team membership only.

Removing Annotators

To remove an annotator from the project, use the remove button next to their name. This removes their project membership but does not delete their account or any submitted annotations. Existing task values are preserved.

Researcher vs. Annotator Access

  • Annotators can only access their own task queue in the annotator interface.
  • Researchers assigned to a workflow appear in the annotator list and can annotate tasks, but they retain full researcher permissions in the researcher interface.

Finding Annotator Login Details

If an annotator has forgotten their credentials and you no longer have the generated password, a researcher or admin can issue a new password from the Admin panel (admin access required), or the annotator can use the password reset flow if email is configured.
